The Butler softball team travels from Memphis, Tenn. to Tampa Fla. to begin their annual Spring Break trip. The Bulldogs enter the weekend 6-12 and will play seven games over the course of four days.
The weekend begins on Wednesday as the Bulldogs take on Lehigh and Quinnipiac. Butler faces Maine and Army on Friday and St. Joseph's and North Florida Saturday. The Bulldogs will wrap up their week on Sunday, playing Lehigh a second time.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 2-2 weekend in Memphis, posting wins against Indiana State and Tennessee State. Junior
Kaitlin Doud started all four games for the Bulldogs, going 4-for-9 with two homeruns and two RBIs. She currently leads the team in RBIs (9) and homeruns (3).
The junior ended the weekend with a .444 average and a 1.333 slugging percentage. In the 8-0 shutout of Tennessee State, Doud went 2-for-2 and also threw the shutout in the circle, giving up only three hits and striking out two.
Alyssa Graves finished the weekend 1-0 on the mound with a tight 2-1 win over Indiana State. The freshman gave up four hits with one earned run, striking out four. Graves currently has the best ERA on the team with a 1.44 and leads the team in strikeouts with 43. Graves earned BIG EAST weekly Honor Roll accolades for her performance as well.
Jenna Foreman continues to lead the Bulldogs in batting average, hitting .413 on the season. The junior is also 14-for-15 on stolen base attempts so far this season. Against Tennessee State, Foreman was 3-for-3 with one RBI and three stolen bases.
Alyssa Garcia (.324) and
Christina Candotti (.323) are two Bulldogs who are also hitting better than .300. Garcia has 12 hits on the season and has been successful on all three of her stolen base attempts. Candotti has 10 hits with seven RBIs.
Payton Longest leads the team in on-base percentage (.423) and is tied for the team-lead in walks with six.
The Bulldogs play their first home game on March 21 against Ball State at 4 p.m. Butler will open BIG EAST play with a three-game series at Villanova March 24-25.
