The Bulldogs step away from BIG EAST play Wednesday night, hosting Marshall in a 6 p.m. contest at the Sellick Bowl in Indianapolis. The match will be streamed live on the Butler Bulldogs Facebook page.
Butler is 1-5-1 on the season and suffered its second BIG EAST loss in the team's most recent outing. Marshall enters off a 1-1 draw against UAB Friday night. The Herd are 2-3-2 overall and 0-1-1 in Conference USA play.
THE SERIES: Butler won the only previous meeting between the two programs. That 3-2 win came in 2008. The match was played on a neutral field as part of a tournament hosted by the University of Dayton.
LAST TIME OUT: Three second-half goals lifted Providence to a 3-2 win over Butler Saturday night at the Sellick Bowl in Indianapolis. Butler scored the first goal of the match in the 25
th minute. Providence found the equalizer in the 59
th minute on a goal by Andualem Chisholm. The tie lasted into the 76
th minute when freshman Gil Santos scored the first of two goals in a four-minute span.
DOUBLING UP: JuniorÂ
Alex Lehtinen scored both goals for the Bulldogs Saturday night, the first multi-goal game of his Butler career. Lehtinen started the scoring with a goal in the 25
th minute; he then followed that by converting a penalty kick in the 88
th minute. For his efforts, Lehtinen earned a spot on the BIG EAST's five-member weekly honor roll.

Louie Bulger and
Eric Hollenkamp in picking up their first Bulldog points early in their respective careers. Bulger (at Akron, Aug. 24) and Hollenkamp (vs. Drake, Aug. 27) registered goals within the first two matches of the season for the Bulldogs.

Jared Timmer were selected to the preseason All-BIG EAST squad. Guhl was also named the BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year.
BIG YEAR AHEAD: JuniorÂ
Brandon Guhl is a popular guy in terms of preseason honors and watch lists. Guhl is on the 2018 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List. He was also selected to Top Drawer Soccer Men's Preseason Best XI Team (Third Team) and No. 31 on the TDS Preseason National College Soccer Players list, as well as being named to the College Soccer News 2018 Preseason All-America First Team.
NOT KIDDING AROUND: The Bulldogs put together a challenging schedule for the upcoming season as the Bulldogs will face four teams ranked in the preseason Top 25: Indiana (No. 2), Akron (No. 4), BIG EAST rival Georgetown (No. 13), and Western Michigan (No. 14). Columbia, Creighton and Xavier also received votes in the preseason poll.
ACCORDING TO THE COACHES: Butler has been picked to finish second in the BIG EAST Preseason Poll. The conference's head coaches voted in the preseason poll. Georgetown, which finished second to the Bulldogs in the 2017 regular season but won the BIG EAST Tournament, was picked to win the conference. The Hoyas received seven first-place votes from the coaches, while Butler picked up the remaining three nods.
