Carly Hewitt captains for the upcoming 2019 women's lacrosse season. The group includes three returning senior captains in Smith, Hallenbeck, and Fischbach. Hewitt, also a senior, played an integral role in the Bulldog defense last season.
Smith, a transfer from the University of Dayton is a returning attacker for the Bulldogs. During the 2018 season, the senior appeared in 13 games, making three starts. She took 10 shots with six on goal, scoring two goals, including one against Louisville. The attacker also tallied two assists.
Redshirt senior Hallenbeck finished the 2018 season tied for the team lead in goals with 21. She also dished out four assists. The midfielder appeared in 15 games, making 14 starts. Hallenbeck had back-to-back hat tricks during her redshirt junior season against Central Michigan and Detroit, and also scored a season-high four goals in the Bulldogs' win over Howard.
Jordan Fischbach, a senior from Worthington, Ohio, started all 17 games for the Bulldogs in 2018. She finished second on the team in ground balls with 27, including a season-high six against Cincinnati. The defender also caused 12 turnovers.
As a junior defender, Hewitt started in 16 games for Butler and ranked first on the team in caused turnovers with 19. She also finished tied for first on the team in ground balls with 29, including a season-high six against UConn. The defender also tallied an assist against Campbell, a game where she caused a season-high four turnovers.
The Bulldogs open their season on Feb. 14, hosting Duquesne at Varsity Field. BIG EAST play begins on March 30 when Georgetown makes the trip to Indianapolis to take on the Bulldogs.
