INDIANAPOLIS -- Butler football recognized 13 members of the team at the annual postseason banquet. The awards were voted on by the players, with the winner receiving a majority of the vote. The Top Dawg awards were given to the most valuable player on the offense, defense, and special teams.

This year, Luke Sennett received the defensive Top Dawg award after leading the team in tackles with 104. The redshirt-junior was the first Bulldog to record over 100 tackles since 2012. The defensive back's 9.5 tackles per game was good for 21st in the FCS. Sennett won the most improved player award in 2017.

For the third year in a row, wide receiver Pace Temple was named the Offensive Top Dawg. The senior set Butler records for most receptions in a season (85) and most receiving yards in a season (1,097) in 2018. Temple ends his Butler career with the most receiving yards in Butler history (3,364). The team captain was a first-team All-PFL selection for the second year in a row.

The Special Teams Top Dawg ward was given to linebacker Justin Markus. Markus finished the season with ten tackles and one kickoff return that went for 18 yards. Markus also received the One Play Warrior award which is given to the player with the most special teams points.

The newcomer of the year was freshman running back Kavon Samuels for his work in the kickoff return game. In his first season as a Bulldog, Samuels returned 20 kicks for 421 yards and ended the year with 449 all-purpose yards.

Red-shirt freshman Mickey Kane was named the most improved player for Butler after leading the Dawgs with five sacks. Kane was named as a PFL Co-Defensive Freshman Player of the Year and was a part of the 2018 Phil Steele FCS Freshman All-America second team. Kane also led Butler in tackles for a loss with 10 for 33 yards.

The Battle of the trenches award is given to the best offensive and defensive lineman on the team. This year those player were center Dakota Sneed, and defensive lineman Matt Hawkins. Sneed, a redshirt senior, started all 11 games at center for the Bulldogs this season. Also a redshirt senior, Hawkins made 19 tackles and was credited with 4 QB hurries in his last season with the Dawgs.

The Bulldog Pride award is given to the player who is seen as the greatest representation of the program. This year the recipient was quarterback and team captain Will Marty. The redshirt-senior started all 11 games for the Bulldogs and threw at least one touchdown pass in every single game. He ends his Butler career with 5,550 passing yard, good for fourth all-time.

The Unsung Hero Awards were given to players on various scout teams. The offensive award was given to freshman wide-out Johnny O'Shea. Freshman Jordan Caselberry was given the defensive honor and freshman JP Clark was honored for his work on special teams.

2018 captains Dalton Rogers, Pace Temple, Will Marty and Mason Brunner were also honored.
