The Butler men's tennis team finished up a weekend in Iowa City Sunday afternoon with a hard-fought battle against Iowa. The Bulldogs fell 5-2, but notched wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles spot.

Mason Dragos defeated #73 Kareem Allaf 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to tally a point in the Bulldogs' favor in the No. 1 spot. Michael Dickson was also successful in the No. 2 spot, defeating Joe Tyler 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.

Aviv Ben Shabat and Thomas Brennan each took their match to a third set but were unable to secure the victory. Iowa took the doubles point after defeating Adrian Mag and Dragos 6-2, and Dickson and Spencer Lang 6-0.

The Bulldogs fell to East Tennessee State in their first match of the weekend on Saturday afternoon, 7-0. East Tennessee defeated Michael Dickson and Adrian Mag 6-2, and Thomas Brennan and Spencer Lang 6-3 to clinch the doubles point.

There were several tight matches in singles play, with Michael Dickson and Ryan Roegner taking their matches to the third set. In No. 2 singles,  Dickson defeated Frazier Rengifo 6-3 in the first set, but was unable to hold on as Rengifo came back to take set two 6-3, and set three 6-4.

Roegner battled against David Gonzalez in the No. 5 spot, taking the first set 6-3. Gonzalez came back to take sets two and three 6-1, 1-0 (10-8), respectively.

The Bulldogs are back in action next weekend, hosting Youngstown State on Jan. 1 and Cleveland State and Marian on Feb. 2. All matches will be played at the Butler Tennis Bubble.
