The Bulldogs return from a brief reprieve from Big East play, hosting DePaul Saturday night in a conference showdown at the Sellick Bowl. For those unable to make it to Indianapolis, the match will be streamed on the Butler Athletics YouTube channel.
Butler enters the contest at 6-4; DePaul is 4-5-2. The Bulldogs are 1-2 in conference play, while the Blue Demons post an 0-1-2 mark.
THE SERIES:Â Butler owns a 6-2-2 lead in the all-time series between the two programs, one that dates back to the 1989 season. That includes a 2-0 win in Indianapolis in 2017 in addition to the 3-1 Bulldogs victory last season. The teams have played every season since the Bulldogs joined the BIG EAST Conference prior to the 2013 season. During that time, Butler owns a 3-2-1.
  Â
ONE YEAR AGO:Â Butler defeated DePaul by a score of 3-1 in Illinois Oct. 13, 2018.
Â
DePaul found the net first with a goal in the 60
th minute. However, the lead was short-lived as the Bulldogs responded eight minutes later, after a handball in the DePaul penalty box resulted in a penalty kick for Butler.
Alex Lehtinen stepped up to the spot and deposited the penalty kick to tie the match.
Logan Lee scored the game-winner asÂ
Jack Haywood played a ball to him at the top of the key. As DePaul goalkeeper Drew Nuelle came charging off his line, Lee was able to get the shot over his head for the 2-1 lead.
Shortly after that,
Brandon Guhl added an insurance goal in the 85
th minute asÂ
Marco Charalambous utilized some fancy footwork to keep possession of the ball up the left side.
LAST TIME OUT:Â The Bulldogs pulled out a thrilling 1-0 win against Akron on Tuesday night. The win came after an exhausting 120 minutes of play with the deadlock ending in the 110
th minute after a
Jack Haywood corner kick resulted in a goal by senior
Alex Lehtinen.
