VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Butler volleyball team took a 3-0 road loss at Villanova on Saturday night (25-23, 25-15, 25-23). The setback moves their BIG EAST record to 2-2.
How It Happened
Butler and Villanova were tied up at 16-16 in the first set, but a 3-0 Wildcat scoring run would separate the two clubs. BU got back within one at 24-23, but Mallory Potts would end the opener with her fifth kill of the set to help VU go up 1-0.
Nova ended set two on a 10-3 scoring run to go up on Butler 2-0. Clare Delaplane came alive for the Wildcats to record seven kills in the frame. She did her damage on just 15 attempts and didn't have a single error. Nova hit .298 in set two compared to .083 from the Bulldogs.
Butler's comeback in set three came up just short allowing the Wildcats to post their third conference win of the season. Nova led 24-17 after a kill from Allie Olsonoski, but the 'Dawgs would fight back to make the score 24-23. Sanaa Barnes would end any chance of a comeback with the final kill of the match.
