The Butler men's tennis team notched their first home victory of 2019, taking down Youngstown State 6-1. The Bulldogs swept the doubles point and won five out of six singles matches to defeat the Penguins.
Michael Dickson and
Mason Dragos started on a high note for the Bulldogs, taking down Joao Garretto and Danylo Veremeichuk 6-3 in the No. 1 doubles spot.
Thomas Brennan and
Spencer Lang clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 victory in the No. 3 spot.
Dragos took care of business in the No. 1 singles spot, defeating Veremeichuk 6-4, 6-4.
Aviv Ben Shabat came from behind in No. 3 singles, topping Luke Purser 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.
Newcomer
Thomas Brennan won a hard-fought victory in the No. 4 spot. Brennan came back from a 6-3 loss in the first set, and battled a 6-1 deficit in the second set tiebreaker, before holding off five straight match points to win the tiebreaker 8-6. Brennan went on to clinch the victory 6-2 in the third set.
Ryan Roegner defeated Erik Gran 7-5, 7-5 in the No. 5 spot, followed by a win in the No. 6 spot from
Spencer Lang. The senior captain also came back from a first set loss to take set two 7-6, and set
three 10-4.
The Bulldogs are back in action tomorrow, Feb. 2, taking on Cleveland State at 2 p.m. and Marian at 6 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Butler Tennis Bubble.
