No. 11 Marquette shot 59 percent in the second half to post a 79-69 win over Butler Wednesday night at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee.
With the win, Marquette moves to 22-4 overall, with an 11-2 conference mark. The Bulldogs fall to 15-12 (6-8 BIG EAST).
After Butler scored the first seven points of the second half to take a 37-29 lead, Marquette began to heat up on their home floor by scoring 25 of the next 32 points to take a 54-44 lead with 8:36 to play.
Marquette's lead would extend to 15 in the final minutes.
Sean McDermott led the Bulldogs with a career-high 27 points. He pulled down a team-high eight rebounds, including six on the offensive end. McDermott was 8-for-13 from the field, and 4-of-5 from behind the arc.
Markus Howard scored 28 points for Marquette. Theo John posted a 15-point, 11-rebound double-double.
The Golden Eagles shot 49 percent for the game, compared to 41 percent for the Bulldogs.
Butler led for a majority of the first half, stretching the lead to as many as eight before a late Marquette run trimmed the Bulldogs' halftime lead to 30-29.
Kamar Baldwin added 12 points for Butler.
The Bulldogs have nearly a week off before returning to action Tuesday night, hosting Providence at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Limited tickets are still available for the 7 p.m. tip.
