The Bulldogs opened the 2019 season strong, posting an 8-0 (six innings) victory over IUPUI in Rosemont, Ill. Butler played two games on Friday, falling to Western Illinois in the second game of the day, 7-1. Game one against IUPUI was highlighted by a 5.1 inning shutout from
Alyssa Graves.
The sophomore notched her first win of the season on the mound, striking out four and allowing only three hits in her first outing of the season. At the plate, the Bulldogs exploded for eight runs, with
Sammy Andersen leading the way with two RBI. The catcher went two-for-four with two singles.
Jenna Foreman also posted a solid day at the plate scoring two runs and tallying one RBI. The leadoff batter also stole one base for the Bulldogs. Senior
Kaitlin Doud tallied a double and an RBI, while
Alyssa Garcia also had a single and an RBI.
Payton Longest's sacrifice fly was good for a run as well.
Freshman
Karli Ricketts got the nod for the second game, making her first start on the mound in a Bulldog uniform. The rookie went 3.2 innings in the 7-1 loss, giving up three hits and three earned runs, with seven strikeouts.
Doud came in to throw the final 2.1 innings, giving up four runs (two earned, two unearned) on two hits.
Maddie Moore tallied an RBI off a single for the Bulldogs. Â
Butler returns to action tomorrow, Feb. 9, taking on Evansville at 4:30 p.m. CT and Loyola at 7 p.m. CT. Both games will be played in Rosemont, Ill.
