Led by 18 points from
Kamar Baldwin, the Bulldogs defeated Georgetown, 73-69 Saturday afternoon in Washington, D.C. With the win, the Bulldogs move to 14-10, 5-6 in BIG EAST play. Georgetown falls to 15-9, 5-6 in conference play.
"It might not have been the prettiest performance, but the team had to fight for each other and find a way to grit it out at the end," head coach LaVall Jordan said. "Guys had to step up and hit big shots early and some big shots late. I thought our bench was tremendous with their energy and I'm just proud of this one."
The first half was highlighted by a 9-of-14 start from the field for the Bulldogs that contributed to a 41-35 halftime advantage. A 12-2 run early in the first half gave Butler a 26-19 lead as
Jordan Tucker ended the first half with 14 points, including 3-of-4 from three-point range.
The Bulldogs ended the first half shooting 48 percent from the field and 40 percent from three.
Baldwin was the driving force for the Bulldogs in the second half, scoring 13 of his 18 points in the final 20 minutes.
Butler overpowered Georgetown at the start of the second half, taking its biggest lead of the game at 62-51 with 11 minutes to play. Georgetown answered with a 12-2 run of its own to come within three (64-61) with seven minutes to play.
The back-and-forth battle continued in the final minutes with Baldwin hitting a clutch jumper to push the Bulldogs' lead to 69-64 with 2:27 to play. After three made free throws on Georgetown's end, Baldwin would go on to hit his final four free throws to seal the victory for Butler, 73-69.
Tucker ended the game with 15 points for the Bulldogs, while teammate
Paul Jorgensen added 12. Freshman Mac McClung had a game-high 21 points for the Hoyas. Jamorko Pickett scored 18, including 3-of-6 from three.
The Bulldogs take a two-game winning streak to St. John's Tuesday night. Tipoff is set of 8:30 p.m. at Carnesecca Arena.
