OSCEOLA, Fla. – The Bulldogs picked up their third win of the season on Friday afternoon by defeating Saint Peter's 21-7 in the 2019 RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. Head Coach
Dave Schrage recorded his 800th win as a head coach at the collegiate level.
Harrison Freed hit for the cycle against the Peacocks to highlight the game for BU. Freed ended the contest going 4-for-5 from the plate with seven RBI and two runs scored. Seven RBI in a single-game is just one shy of the school record.
Kyle Smith matched Freed at the plate with four hits. The Bulldog lead-off man added four runs and two RBI to his stat line. Extra base hits belonged to Freed, Smith, Gargano, Margroff, McCargar, All, and Stites.
The game started to take shape in the bottom of the first inning with BU jumping out to a 4-0 lead. Four more runs would come home for Butler in the third to give the Bulldogs a 9-2 advantage. Each club scored three runs in the fifth inning to make the score 13-5. Butler would put the game away in the seventh with six more runs.
Joe Graziano got the start on the mound for Butler, but the win would go to
Quentin Miller as Graziano exited after 4.1 innings of work. The sophomore struck out three before handing the ball off to Miller.
Benji Downs,
Alex Voss and
JT Turley would also see time on the hill for Butler. Downs struck out three over two frames. Voss and Turley would each own an inning at the end of the game.
The Bulldogs will play a doubleheader tomorrow on day two of the 2019 RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. The first game will start at 3:30 against Central Michigan. Game two will follow at 7 PM vs. Pittsburgh.
