Michael Cascino paced Butler at the Benbow Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla. The sophomore finished all 36 holes with a two-under 142 for second place overall. He was just one stroke behind Albany State's Abhinav Walia.
The annual event is named for Don Benbow, the Butler Athletics Hall of Famer who passed away Monday. Benbow had a storied career at Butler as a student-athlete, coach and administrator.
As a team, the Bulldogs finished with a 15-over 591, just three strokes off first place finisher Albany State (588, +12). Butler fired a 290 the first round to take a one-stroke lead over Albany State. The Bulldogs shot a 301 the final 18 holes, compared to a 297 from Albany State.
Northwood finished the invitational in third with a 24-over 600. Evansville took the fourth spot with a 602 (+24).
Logan Sabins and
Patrick Allgeier were also successful in navigating the 6,784 Blue Sky Golf course, both shooting a five-over 149 to finish tied for 10
th overall.
Raymond Sullivan finished 16
th overall with an eight-over 152.
Augie Hartnagel rounded out the Bulldog scoring five with a 10-over 154.
Nick Williams, playing as an individual, finished tied for 37
th with a score of 160.
Behind Walia and Cascino, Evansville's Spencer Wagner finished third with a one-under 143. Chase McLain of Albany State finished fourth with a 144 (even).
The Bulldogs return to action on March 14, competing in the Savannah Invitational hosted by Savannah State.
