INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler (21-9) women's basketball team will host Northeastern (20-11) in the first round of the WNIT. The Bulldogs made the WNIT field for the seventh time in program history and for the first time since 2014.
 
"Our team is excited and humbled to receive an invitation to the WNIT," Head Coach Kurt Godlevske stated Monday night. "I'm excited for our ladies, who have worked so hard to earn this opportunity. We will get ourselves ready to compete so we can represent Butler University and the BIG EAST Conference in a fashion it deserves."

The game between Butler and Northeastern will be played inside Hinkle Fieldhouse on Thursday, March 21 at 7 PM. This will mark just the second meeting between the two programs. 
 
A total of 41 teams in the tournament won at least 20 games this season. This year's Postseason WNIT features five teams from the BIG EAST and Conference USA and four teams from the Mid-American Conference and West Coast Conference. Seven conferences placed three teams each – American, Big Sky, Big Ten, Colonial, Horizon, Mountain West and Sun Belt. Other conference represented include the Atlantic 10 (2), Big 12 (2), Ivy (2), Southland (2), America East (1), Atlantic Coast (1), Atlantic Sun (1), Big South (1), Big West (1), Metro (1), Mid-Eastern (1), Missouri Valley (1), Northeast (1), Ohio Valley (1), Pac-12 (1), Patriot (1), Southeastern (1), Southern (1), Southwest (1), Summit (1) and Western Athletic (1).
 
Postseason WNIT Tournament Overview
The Women's National Invitation Tournament is an annual tournament involving 64 of the nation's top women's Division I basketball teams. All games, including the semifinals and championship, are hosted by participating schools. Every round is single elimination.
 
Format
The Postseason WNIT features 32 first-round games, followed by 16 second-round games, eight third-round games, four quarterfinal games, two semifinal games, and the championship. The championship game is televised live nationally. The event offers 32 automatic berths, one to each established conference, and 32 at-large berths.
 
2019 Dates
Round 1 - March 20-22.
Round 2 - March 23-26.
Round 3 - March 27-29.
Round 4 - March 30-31.
Semifinals - April 3-4.
Championship - Saturday, April 6, 3 p.m. ET.
