The Bulldogs tallied their first BIG EAST win on Friday evening, rallying to defeat Villanova, 4-3. Butler lost the doubles point but was able to notch four singles victories to take down the Wildcats.
Villanova took the doubles point with wins at the No. 3 and 1 courts, respectively.
Mason Dragos and
Ryan Roegner battled in the No. 1 spot, but ultimately fell 7-6 (3).
Dragos bounced back to tally the first singles win for Butler, defeating Stefan Suarez 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 1 court.
Thomas Brennan followed with another straight set victory, taking down Tyler Roth 6-4, 6-3.
Aviv Ben Shabat fell in a hard-fought match at the No. 3 court, but
Michael Dickson was able to put the Bulldogs up 3-2 with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 6 court.
Adrian Mag pulled through for the Bulldogs, solidifying the victory with a straight set win in the No. 4 spot. He defeated Dylan Flanagan 6-4, 6-3.
The Bulldogs are now 1-0 in conference play and 15-5 overall.
Butler looks to continue the BIG EAST momentum tomorrow, March 30, taking on the Red Storm at 4 p.m. in Queens, N.Y.
