Butler dropped a 4-1 decision to St. John's Saturday night in Queens, N.Y. The match was the first all-time meeting between the BIG EAST foes.
With the result, Butler is now 15-6 on the 2019 campaign. St. John's improves to 10-5.
The Bulldogs took the doubles point to open the match, posting wins on the No. 1 and No. 3 courts.
Mason Dragos and
Michael Dickson picked up a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles, while
Spencer Lang and
Thomas Brennan teamed up for a 6-4 victory at No. 3 doubles.
The host Red Storm took control of the match in singles play, winning straight-set decisions at the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 positions. St. John's got the clinching point at No. 1 singles as Andrei Crapcenco pulled out a three-set win over Butler's
Mason Dragos, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.
The Bulldogs return to action Wednesday against Ball State. The match will now be played in Muncie, Ind., with Ball State hosting. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
