The Bulldogs pulled out a hard-fought, 4-3 victory over Marquette Saturday afternoon in Indianapolis. Butler now moves to 3-1 in BIG EAST play and 19-6 overall. Marquette falls to 4-2 in conference play and 12-8 overall.

The doubles point came down to the No. 2 court as the Golden Eagles won the first match in the No. 3 spot and the Bulldogs took the win at the No. 1 court. Michael Dickson and Mason Dragos defeated Brett Meyers and Alvaro Verdu at the first court to force the tiebreaker. At the No. 2 court, Greg Anderson and Luis Heredia Gomez were able to take the win over Aviv Ben Shabat and Adrian Mag to clinch the doubles point.

The Bulldogs found themselves down 3-0 after Marquette took wins at the No. 3 and 4 courts to start singles play. Brennan began the rally for Butler, taking down Luke Smrek in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2. Dickson followed it up with another three set victory at the No. 5 spot, 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-1.

Spencer Lang came from behind to pull the Bulldogs even with another three set win in the No. 6 spot, beating Fran San Andres 6-7, 6-4, 6-1. The match would come down to Dragos at the No. 1 court.

Alvaro Verdu took the first set against Dragos, 7-6. Dragos came back to take set two, 6-4. The senior was able to take the third set 7-5 to clinch his match and the victory for the Bulldogs.

Butler returns to the court tomorrow (April 14) to battle DePaul in the final match before the BIG EAST Tournament. The match is set to begin at Noon and will be played at Marian University in Indianapolis. The forecast for tomorrow may move the match inside to the Butler Bubble.
