2019 BIG EAST Tournament Brackets (both men and women) - PDF
Butler enters the upcoming 2019 BIG EAST Tournament as the No. 2 seed as determined by the BIG EAST Tennis Championships Committee. The Bulldogs will open play Friday with a 9 a.m. quarterfinal match against seventh-seeded Villanova.
Both the BIG EAST men's and women's tennis tournaments will take place in Cayce, S.C. The women's tournament begins Thursday with the men's tournament beginning Friday. Both events run through Sunday.
Butler's No. 2 seed is the highest since the Bulldogs joined the BIG EAST prior to the 2014. The Bulldogs' seeding has been enhanced by a school-record 20 victories already this season (Butler is 20-6 overall).
The Bulldogs have won five straight matches entering the BIG EAST Tournament. Butler is 4-1 against BIG EAST opponents with the only loss coming to top-seeded St. John's March 30 in New York.
Butler defeated Villanova, 4-3, March 29 in Philadelphia. Butler's four wins in that match came from
Mason Dragos (No. 1),
Thomas Brennan (No. 2),
Adrian Mag (No. 4), and
Michael Dickson (No. 6).
Butler also holds BIG EAST wins over Marquette (No. 3 seed), DePaul (No. 4 seed), and Xavier (No. 8 seed) during the 2019 regular season.
Those wins have been spearheaded by Dragos, who is 18-6 this spring in the No. 1 singles position. Brennan, with a majority of his matches being played on the No. 2 court, is 20-4 this spring.
The winner of Friday's quarterfinal match will advance to Saturday's semifinal to play the winner of No. 3 seed Marquette and No. 6 seed Georgetown.
The Bulldogs won the 2017 BIG EAST Championship, earning the program's first NCAA Tournament berth since 2007.
