Scouting Purdue
The 11-23 Boilermakers will host the Bulldogs on Tuesday after losing two out of three games to Iowa this past weekend. Purdue has put together a set of great wins, with victories over #14 Texas, Northwestern and Penn State. In his third season as head coach, Mark Wasikowski is trying to lead Purdue back to the NCAA Tournament as he did a season ago.

If Purdue wants to pick up a win versus Butler, they will need to start scoring runs. The Boilermakers' 128 runs and .230 batting average, are good for 12th in the Big Ten. Skylar Hunter is the most dangerous Purdue batter. The switch-hitting junior is batting .342 on the season, good for sixth in the Big Ten. Hunter lead Purdue with 20 runs scored and has knocked in nine RBI on the year.

Junior catcher Zac Fascia is another name to look out for the Boilermakers. Fascia was placed on the Buster Posey Award watch list after his sophomore season at Indian Hills Junior College. Fascia is batting .250 on the season with a team leading two home runs and 16 runs batted in. Fascia was a 37th round selection of the New York Mets in the 2018 MLB Draft.

The Boilermakers will send redshirt-freshman Cory Brooks to the mound to make his collegiate debut. The right-hander was granted a medical redshirt after an arm injury ended his freshman season. Brooks was a star in high school, leading his team to a conference and district title by going 10-1 with a 0.81 ERA.

No-Hitter at Purdue
Five Bulldog pitchers touched the rubber at Purdue in 2017 to help Butler post their seventh no-hitter in program history. Sam Hubbe (3.0), Quentin Miller (2.0), Luke Johnson (1.2), Jack Pilcher (0.1) and Ottavio Dattolo (2.0) combined for six strikeouts and two walks as Butler posted the 4-2 win. Butler jumped out in front with a three-run first inning. Their final run came across the plate in the top of the third. Purdue scored in the second off a wild pitch and a sac fly in the eighth would give them a second run.

League Leaders
As a team, Butler leads the BIG EAST in runs scored (217), RBI (195), walks (184), ERA (3.41), and batters struck out (322). Harrison Freed leads all BIG EAST players in slugging percentage (.730), hits (52), RBI (49), home runs (12), and total bases (100). Teammate Kyle Smith leads the conference in runs scored (36) and hit by pitch (15). On the mound, Ryan Pepiot leads the BIG EAST in opposing batting average (.178) and batters struck out (85). Connor Schultz is your conference leader in wins (5). He ranks second in ERA (1.43).

Pepiot Chases Strikeout Record
Junior Ryan Pepiot now has 265 strikeouts in his BU career. He struck out 10 in his last start vs. Creighton and is now just 15 away from the school record. The all-time strikeout leader at Butler is two-time MLB All-Star Pat Neshek. The Phillies big leaguer recorded 280 strikeouts at Butler from 2000-02. Pepiot has 85 strikeouts this season, the fifth-highest total in the NCAA. Neshek also holds the single-season strikeout record at BU with 118.

Last Week
Butler went 1-3 last week, taking a true road loss at Ball State to go along with a 1-2 weekend series vs. Creighton. Zach Parker hit .500 for BU collecting five hits in 10 at-bats. Parker had three doubles and scored a team-high five runs. Additional power from the plate came from Harrison Freed. The BU right fielder hit his second grand slam of the season at Ball State to help him reach nine RBI last week. On the mound Ryan Pepiot and Connor Schultz shined for the Bulldogs. Pepiot struck out 10 Bluejays and only walked one in his Friday start. Schultz lifted BU to victory over Creighton by throwing eight shutout innings on Saturday. He struck out seven and only walked one.

Schrage Reaches 800 Wins
Dave Schrage reached 800 career wins as a collegiate head coach on March 1 when the Bulldogs defeated Saint Peter's 21-7 in the 2019 RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. Schrage has 30 years of coaching experience and takes 815 career wins into Tuesday night's tilt at Purdue.

Coming Up
Butler will travel to Xavier this weekend for a three-game series. The Musketeers are currently in first place of the BIG EAST standings with a 5-1 conference record. Game one will be played on Thursday, April 18 at 3 PM. The contest will stream on BEDN. The weekend also features a 3 PM game on Friday and a 1 PM tilt on Saturday so that players can return home on Easter Sunday.
