Â
Butler football will play its annual Blue-White spring game this Friday afternoon. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at the Bud and Jackie Sellick Bowl. This intrasquad scrimmage between the offense and defense marks the end of spring practices for the Bulldogs.
The event is open to the public and free to attend.Â
Â
The game takes on a different scoring format that awards points for more than just touchdowns and field goals.
Â
Offensive scores such as touchdowns (6 points), extra points (1), two-point conversions (2), and field goals (3) will be given their typical point values.
Â
Additionally, the offense can score on first downs (1), pass plays of 25-plus yards (2), run plays of 15-plus yards (2) and fourth-down conversions (2).
Â
On the other side of the ball, the defense can score points by forcing a turnover (7 points), on a blocked/missed extra point (1) and on a failed two-point conversion (2).
Â
Defensive points will also be rewarded for defensive stops (1), fourth-down stops (2), sacks (2), and tackles for a loss (2).
Â
The teams will play four 15-minute quarters with a running clock. The clock will stop only in between series or inside the last two minutes of the fourth quarter.
Â
The Bulldogs' spring work has been highlighted by the return of five players who earned Pioneer Football League honors in the fall: running back
Brad Sznajder, linebacker
Mason Brunner, defensive end
Mickey Kane, defensive back
Luke Sennett, and kicker
Drew Bevelhimer.
Â
Butler will kick off the 2019 regular season August 31 at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minn., when they take on the defending FCS champion North Dakota State Bison.
