The Bulldogs return to BIG EAST play this weekend, traveling to Omaha, Neb., for a three-game series with Creighton. Due to the Easter holiday, the teams agreed to move the games up one day as the series now includes a Friday doubleheader and a single game Saturday.
All three games will be streamed with links available on the softball schedule page of ButlerSports.com.
The Bulldogs are 14-25 overall and 2-6 in BIG EAST play. Creighton enters the weekend at 15-18 (3-9 BIG EAST). Both teams are currently on the outside of the top four spots in the conference standings. The top four teams at the conclusion of the regular season will qualify for the 2019 BIG EAST Tournament. Including this weekend, each BIG EAST team is slated for nine remaining conference games over the next three weekends.
Creighton took two of the three games between the two teams during the 2018 season. Those games were played in Indianapolis.
Alyssa Graves leads the team with a 3.11 ERA. She has 138 strikeouts in her 117 innings of work. Graves matched her career-high with 12 strikeouts in an eight-inning win at Seton Hall April 7. It marked the second time this season that Graves registered double-digit strikeouts. Graves is second in the BIG EAST in strikeouts.
Karli Ricketts enters weekend play with a 3.60 ERA. Her last six appearances in the circle have included 27.2 innings of work and only five earned runs. She has 24 strikeouts during that stretch. Earlier this season, Ricketts threw a no-hitter (five innings) versus Green Bay March 8.
FreshmanÂ
Lauren Fey leads the Bulldogs with a .330 average. Her versatility has been on display recently as she has seen time both in the outfield and at second base. Fey has nine multi-hit games this season, including a 5-for-5 performance against La Salle March 17. Those five hits tied Butler's single-game record.
Jenna Foreman is hitting .328 on the season and her 42 hits lead the Bulldogs. She has 28 stolen bases in 33 attempts. That figure easily leads the BIG EAST. Foreman has 12 multi-hit games in 2019. She had a season-best four hits against Evansville Feb. 9. Foreman now has a 104 career stolen bases, the most in Butler history. Four of those stolen bases came vs. Holy Cross Feb. 16. Foreman set Butler single-season marks in 2018 with 63 hits and 35 stolen bases, earning NFCA All-Region second team honors.
Senior
Kaitlin Doud leads the Bulldogs in home runs (five), extra-base hits (13) and RBI (19). Three of her five home runs have come in her last eight games.
Following the weekend series with Creighton, the Bulldogs travel to Ball State Tuesday in a non-conference contest. Butler heads to Providence next weekend. The Bulldogs are not scheduled for a game at home until the regular season-ending series May 4-5 with St. John's.
