UPDATE: Due to rain suspending play Friday before all quarterfinal matches were completed, Butler and Marquette will now play at 4 p.m. Saturday; Sunday's championship match is now scheduled for a 12:30 p.m. start. 

Butler topped Villanova, 4-2, in a quarterfinal match of the BIG EAST Tournament Friday morning in Cayce, S.C.

The Bulldogs advance to Saturday morning's semifinals where they will face third-seeded Marquette. The Golden Eagles defeated Georgetown, 5-1, in a quarterfinal match Friday.

The Bulldogs started out by winning the doubles point – something they did not do when Butler and Villanova met March 29 in Philadelphia.

Adrian Mag and Michael Dickson teamed up for a 6-3 win at the No. 2 spot, while Spencer Lang and Thomas Brennan won, 7-5, on the third court.

Lang was the first singles match on the board, as he defeated Tommy Mulfur, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 6 singles. That gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead, which was stretched to 3-0 by Mason Dragos on the first court. Dragos defeated, Stefan Suarez, 7-5, 6-3.

Villanova responded with a pair of wins. Tommy Dodson took the No. 3 singles match over Aviv Ben Shabat in straight sets and the Wildcats' Tyler Roth overcame a one-set deficit to beat Brennan, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 on the second court. That pulled Villanova within, 3-2.

However, minutes later, sophomore Michael Dickson clinched the match with a three-set win at No. 5 singles. Dickson won, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, over Villanova's Charles Schuls.

Saturday's semifinal will also be a rematch of a regular season contest.

Butler and Marquette played each other less than a week ago with the Bulldogs pulling out a 4-3 win in Indianapolis, overcoming a 3-0 deficit that also saw the Bulldogs drop the first set in three of their four eventual wins.
