The Butler men's tennis team took their second win this week, defeating BIG EAST rival Xavier, 5-2, Tuesday afternoon at the Park Tudor School in Indianapolis. The Bulldogs rallied after losing the doubles point to take five singles points to clinch the match.
The Musketeers took wins at the No. 1 and 2 courts to clinch the doubles point.
Mason Dragos and
Michael Dickson in the No. 1 spot fell to Jack Dykema and Brett Winters, 6-4.
Thomas Brennan and
Spencer Lang fell in the No. 2 spot to Matthew Graft and Connor LaFavre, 6-3.
Thomas Brennan, who is 12-2 in the No. 2 spot in his rookie campaign, took the first singles win at the No. 2 court. He took down Dykema in straight sets 6-0, 6-1. Senior Ben Shabat followed it up with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Graft at the No. 3 court.
Michael Dickson put Butler up 3-1 at the No. 4 court with another straight set win 6-3, 6-4. Trent Smith took a win over
Ryan Roegner to bring Xavier within one of the Bulldogs, but
Spencer Lang would clinch the match at the No. 5 court, defeating LaFavre 6-3 in the first set, and then battling to take the second set 7-6 (4).
The Bulldogs are now 17-6 on the season and 2-1 in conference play. Butler is back in action tomorrow, hosting UIC in Indianapolis.The match is set for 5 p.m. at the Bubble.
