@ButlerUBaseball Tops Toledo 8-3

TOLEDO – Butler scored eight runs off seven hits to defeat Toledo on Wednesday afternoon by the final score of 8-3. Joe Graziano came out of the BU bullpen to record his third win of the season. The offense was led by Zach Jarosz and his 2-for-6 effort from the plate.

Jarosz led the team with three RBI and also scored a run in the victory at Scott Field. The Bulldogs would own a 1-0 lead after the second inning and Jarosz would expand on that with a two-RBI double to left centerfield.

Harrison Freed added yet another RBI to his season total in the sixth inning to make the game 4-0 and Connor Christman would follow in the order with a double to left that would score both Jarosz and Kyle Smith.

The shutout would fade out in the seventh inning with Thompson hitting a solo home over the wall in left. He came back to the plate to deliver a two-RBI double to right in the eighth.

BU added some insurance in the ninth. Connor Dall would walk with the bases loaded and the final run would come home courtesy Brody McGrath off a groundout from Jarosz.

The Bulldogs went with a staff day on the mound. Austin Waeghe made his first start of the season, and tossed two good innings for BU. He struck out two, Graziano would strike out four and Alex Voss would strike out three to help BU reach 11 total K's.

Ryan Schmit, Quentin Miller and Jack Pilcher also touched the rubber for Butler. Schmit recorded the first out of the eighth and let Miller mow down the next two. Pilcher hit one batter in the ninth, but would come back with a strikeout. The game ended on a 4-6-3 ground double play.

Butler will return to action this weekend with a three-game road series at Air Force. Game one on Friday will begin at 3 PM.
