Jamie Ikeda will join the Butler women's lacrosse staff as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2019-20 season.

The Berwyn, Penn. native adds collegiate and professional experience to the young program.

"We are extremely lucky and excited to have Coach Ikeda join our coaching staff this academic year," commented head coach Cecil C. Pilson. "His wealth of knowledge in the sport of lacrosse is exceptional. His NCAA championship and professional lacrosse experience will add a new prospective and bring new ideas to our growing program."

A current medical sales representative, Ikeda comes to Indianapolis after a short Major League Lacrosse (MLL) career.  Ikeda spent the 2017 season with the Denver Outlaws and played for the Charlotte Hounds in 2016.

While in Denver, he settled in for a two-year coaching stint with Evolve Lacrosse from 2017-2018. He worked alongside long-standing MLL player, John Grant Jr., to train high school athletes for the club.

Ikeda's coaching career started in 2016, when he joined forces with Premiere Lacrosse League (PLL) coach Jim Stagnitta in Central New Jersey, working with both college and high school players.

His professional and coaching career was kick-started after an impressive four years with the Duke men's lacrosse team. Ikeda collected back-to-back National Championships in 2013 and 2014. He was a four-time ACC Academic Honor Roll selection and a senior co-captain.

The long-stick midfielder and defender appeared in 63 games during his career as a Blue Devil, including eight starts. He finished with two goals and four assists for six points, while collecting 69 ground balls and 30 caused turnovers.

Before Duke, Ikeda was a three-time Pennsylvania State Champion at Conestoga High School (2010, 2011, and 2012).

Ikeda comes from a family of coaches and lacrosse players. His two brothers, Brian and Casey, played collegiately for Providence College and Maryland, respectively. Casey Ikeda is currently a defensive coordinator for the University Pennsylvania men's lacrosse team. Ikeda's great grandfather, Bob Higgins, was the Penn State football coach from 1930-1948, and is a 1954 College Football Hall of Fame inductee.

Ikeda graduated from Duke in 2016 with a degree history. He went on to earn his graduate marketing certificate from Daniels College of Business in 2017.

He will join Pilson, along with assistant coaches Nicole Kopyta and Sarah Willard for the Bulldogs fourth season in the BIG EAST.
