Butler suffered its first setback of the 2019 season Friday night, falling 2-1 at Marshall in Huntington, W.V.
With the result, Butler is now 2-1 on the season, while Marshall improves to 2-0-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Jamil Roberts scored the game-winner in the 63
rd minute, taking a long pass from Pedro Dolabella and depositing it. Roberts had put the Thundering Herd on the board first in the 18
th minute, netting a free kick.
Butler temporarily leveled the game in the 51
st minute on a goal from senior
Brandon Guhl. The assist came from classmate
Alex Lehtinen as Guhl was able to find the net when the ball went between the Marshall keeper's legs.Â
OF NOTE:
- Guhl has scored a goal in each of Butler's three matches this season.
- The physical match included 32 fouls and seven yellow cards.
- Both teams were incredibly efficient with their shots; six of Butler's 10 attempts were on goal, while five of the Thundering Herd's eight shots were on frame.
- Butler keeper Gabriel Gjergji made three saves on the night.
- Co-captain Lehtinen got his first start of the season after battling back from injuries early in the season. It was Lehtinen's second appearance of 2019. He has assists in both games.Â
- With Friday's result, Butler now owns a 2-1 advantage in the all-time series with Marshall.

The Bulldogs return to action Thursday, hosting Wisconsin at the Sellick Bowl. Butler opened the season 2-0 at the Bowl. Thursday's match is scheduled to begin after 7:30 p.m., following a Butler women's match against Illinois.
