Butler ran its 2020 record to 8-1, posting its fifth consecutive win as the team continued play at The Spring Games in Madeira Beach, Fla.
The Bulldogs defeated Georgia State, 1-0, before coming away with a 5-3 win over Middle Tennessee to close the day.
In the second game, both Butler and Middle Tennessee put up three runs in their respective portions of the first inning.
For Butler, Ricketts singled through the left side to score
Bri Avery.
Loren Simpson then plated Ricketts and
Maddie Moore with a double down the right field line.
Middle Tennessee answered with three runs in the bottom half, highlighted by a two-run home run by Lexi Cushing.
That 3-3 scoreboard would hold until the top of the seventh when Ricketts sent a two-run blast over the right field fence for a 5-3 lead.
Lauren Fey had three of Butler's eight hits.
Alyssa Graves got the win for Butler, going the final four innings without surrendering a run. She came on in relief of Ricketts who got the start. Those two combined to strike out nine Blue Raiders.
It was Ricketts' bat that proved to be the difference in the first game of the day as well. Her solo home run to center field in the fifth inning was the only run as the Bulldogs captured a 1-0 win.
The Bulldogs conclude the six-game weekend in Florida with a pair of Sunday contests. Butler faces off with Akron at 9 a.m., followed by an 11:30 a.m. first pitch with Presbyterian.
