The Butler men's tennis team fell 3-4 to Lipscomb in a match that came down to the wire in Nashville, Tenn. The Bison remain undefeated (9-0) as the Bulldogs move to 11-6.
Lipscomb came out swinging, taking the No. 2 and No. 3 flights for the first point. The Bison also led in the No. 1 doubles when the No. 3 flight completed.
Lipscomb held strong at the start of singles play, taking the No. 3 and No. 2 spots in straight sets. Down 0-3, the Bulldogs were in a must-win situation.
Thomas Brennan kept the Bulldogs alive, getting Butler its first win of the match in the top flight.
Ryan Roegner continued the Bulldogs charge with a straight set win (6-1, 7-5) in the No. 6 flight.
Filip Tensing evened the match at 3-3, fighting back for a third-set victory in the No. 4 flight after dropping the first. Tensing won the second two sets 7-6, 7-6, going three and four in break points, respectively.
The match came down to the No. 5 flight. Freshman
Olof Wiklund won the first set, 7-5, before falling 6-4 in the next two, giving Lipscomb a 4-3 victory.
The Bulldogs take the court again tomorrow to wrap up a two-game weekend in Nashville, Tenn. Butler will take on Belmont at 1 p.m.
