The Bulldogs closed out the Don Benbow Invitational with a third-place team finish Tuesday, in the team's opening event of its annual Spring Break trip. Â
Butler hosted the event, named in honor of long-time Butler administrator and Hall of Famer Don Benbow, in Jacksonville, Fla.
Senior
Patrick Allgeier fired an even-par 71 on Tuesday to move into a tie for fourth. After a 77 Monday, he finished at 148 (+6). Teammate
Luke Wells was also among the group at six-over after a round of 72 Tuesday.
They were each 11 shots off the pace of individual medalist Kyle Irlbacker, who led Western Illinois to a team title as well. Irlbacker finished at 137 (-5) after rounds of 68 and 69.
Michael Tanaka, playing as an individual, finished in sixth place after a team-best round of 74 Monday followed by a 75 Tuesday 6,750-yard course Jacksonville Beach Golf Course for a total of 149 (+7).
Butler senior
Logan Sabins was alone in ninth at 151 (+9). He was followed by
Michael Cascino, who finished in a tie for 22
nd (160; +18).
Raymond Sullivan, after rounds of 79 and 86, finished tied for 32
nd.
As a team, Butler shot 298 Tuesday, improving by 10 strokes on the team's Monday performance. The total of 606 (+38) was good for first, trailing Western Illinois. The Leathernecks led wire-to-wire and finished at 597 (297-300). Evansville, behind the best team round of the day at 289, moved into second place at 603 (+35) among the seven-team field.
