Voris Finalizes @ButlerUFootball Defensive Coaching Staff

INDIANAPOLIS – Butler football head coach Jeff Voris has announced staff changes to the program as the team prepares for the upcoming 2020 season. Elijah Ferguson has been promoted to inside linebacker coach and special teams coordinator. Derelle Hankins also received a promotion by being named defensive line coach. Voris also announced the addition of Logan Plumley, who will join the Bulldogs as an outside linebacker coach.

"We are excited to announce that both Elijah Ferguson and Derelle Hankins will remain on staff taking on increased roles," Voris stated. "Coach Ferguson was promoted from defensive ends to linebackers and will oversee our special teams. Coach Hankins will take on the added responsibility of coaching the entire defensive line. These two moves will certainly have a positive effect on our program. Both Elijah and Derelle are excellent teachers and mentors for our players. They have tremendous passion for the game and they are outstanding recruiters."

Ferguson joined the Butler coaching staff prior to the 2016 season. He has spent time coaching both defensive tackles and defensive ends at BU. The Bulldogs have had multiple all-conference performers on the defensive line under Ferguson's guidance including 2018 PFL Co-Freshman Defensive Player of the Year Mickey Kane.

Hankins will enter his second year on the sidelines at Butler in 2020. He coached defensive tackles in 2019, but will now oversee the entire defensive line unit. Hankins played and coached football at Marian before joining Butler. He helped the Knights post 20-straight wins and earn a NAIA National Championship in 2015.

The new wrinkle on the defensive staff will be Logan Plumley as an outside linebacker coach. Plumley was the defensive graduate assistant coach at Miami Ohio last year. He spent six seasons at Miami as both a student assistant and graduate assistant. While in Oxford, Plumley helped with recruiting, film and scout teams. He coached linebackers during individual drills in practice and would chart plays on game days.

"Logan joins our staff from Miami University where he was part of their MAC Championship last season," Voris added. "He comes highly recommended from a staff that takes great pride in not only developing their players, but their staff as well. We look forward to Coach Plumley joining us this spring and the immediate impact he will have within our program. He will fit seamlessly with the Butler Way."
