Voris Announces 2020 Recruiting Class

INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler football coaching staff added 35 student-athletes to the program over the offseason. The talented group of newcomers will arrive on campus in August for the start of training camp.

"We are very excited to welcome another strong recruiting class to Butler," head coach Jeff Voris announced. "This class includes at least one player from every position group including specialist," Voris explained. "Our staff believes that we have created depth and competition across the roster."

Butler offensive line coach BJ Coad will welcome seven new players to his position group. The average height and weight of this new unit stands at 6-3, 275. Cael Begley, Jack Turner, Owen Keane, Fabian Gonzalez, Aaron Cotton, Austin Korba and Stefan Gladis all decided to continue their careers at Butler. The 'Dawgs were young upfront a year ago starting three redshirt-sophomores and a redshirt-freshman in the season finale at Dayton.

Two new signal callers will be thrown into the mix in 2020. QB's Brody Reder and Nick Plaso will get under center for BU this fall. Weapons on the outside for the new duo include Yohance Flager, Kye Johnson, Colin Kelly, Luka Popovic and Owen Pechous. BU also added a tight end in Austin Spradlin.

Running backs coach Matthew McCarroll will get the chance to work with Alex Delong, Joey Suchy and Kellen Newman. Kavon Samuels is set to return as the feature back for BU with Brad Sznajder graduating in the spring. These three players will add depth to the backfield and special teams.

The defense will reload with 16 new players in 2020. Defensive Coordinator and defensive backs coach Joe Cheshire will get to develop Lucas Kozlowski, Kody Leach, Patrick Coury, and Andres Srsen the secondary.

Defensive line coach Derelle Hankins will see five new faces in his position group with Miles Williams, Sam Urbanski, Jacob Cain, Kayson Romaelle, and Brennan Chavez-Potter choosing Butler as their destination for the next four years.

The largest group on the defensive side of the ball will be the linebacker unit. Elijah Ferguson and new hire Logan Plumley will direct this group. Ferguson will concentrate on the inside linebackers while Plumley will be designated with the outside linebackers. Declan Callahan, Gabe Hicks, Vince Waters, Isaac Kolosik, Ryan Tompos, Jack Belskis and Charlie Bless will look to make an impact for the Bulldogs next season.

The special teams unit will bring in newcomer JJ Wadas. Wadas is a place-kicker from Merriville, Ind. that attended Andrean H.S.

"Every year our staff sets out to sign a class that will fit seamlessly with the Butler Way," Voris added. "We truly believe that has been accomplished. The quality of student-athlete in this class is outstanding. They have excelled inside and outside the classroom. They come from strong high school programs and represent nine different states."
