Butler men's golf coach Bill Mattingly has added a pair of standouts for the upcoming season. Daniel Tanaka (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) and Jack Wilcox (Franklin, Tenn./Franklin) have signed national letters of intent, and will join the Bulldogs beginning with the 2020-21 campaign.

"We're excited to add both Daniel and Jack to our program," said Mattingly. "They are strong academically and value the opportunities Butler will provide. I am confident they have the natural talent and work ethic to be successful against our BIG EAST competition."

Tanaka finished ninth in the 2018 Illinois State Tournament as a junior. As a senior, he posted a scoring average of 73.5. Tanaka is a four-time all-conference honoree and two-time Team MVP. His New Trier team won the conference tournament in both his junior and senior seasons. He placed in the Top 5 at the AJGA Imperial Headware Junior Classic and twice qualified for the state open. New Trier qualified for the state tournament in each of his four seasons, registering a state runner-up and third place finish in two of those four years. Tanaka is an honor roll student.

Tanaka's older brother, Michael, is also a member of Butler's golf program.

Wilcox was a finalist for the 2019 Tennessee Boys Golfer of the Year Award after earning first-team All-State honors. His top performances include T4 at the TSSAA State Championship, T2 at the Tennessee State Open Qualifier, and Top 3 finishes at Masters Series events at Westhaven and Greystone, respectively. His Franklin High School team captured the 2019 state title, which was the first golf title in school history. The team also placed fourth in the 2017 state tournament. Wilcox served as team captain as a senior and was his high school's Salutatorian.
