No. 3/4 Purdue posted a 77-48 win over Butler in the Crossroads Classic at Gainbridge Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon.
The Boilermakers improve to 10-1 on the season.
Butler trailed 19-15 with 8:10 to play in the first half when
Aaron Thompson had to go to the bench after being whistled for his second foul, stalling the Bulldog offense which benefitted from his five assists in the opening frame.
The Boilermakers later went on a 12-0 scoring streak and scored 25 of the final 33 points in the half to go into the break leading 39-21.
The lead ballooned to 36 in the second half.
Purdue got significant contributions from sophomores Jaden Ivey (22 points, five rebounds) and Zach Edey (14 points, 11 rebounds) Saturday to lead the Boilermakers to their second straight win. Ivey went a perfect 6-for-6 from behind the arc as Purdue went 11-for-22 as a team.
Purdue shot 53 percent from the field and held a 42-27 rebounding advantage.
The Bulldogs had an off-shooting afternoon, hitting only 32 percent of their attempts. Butler made only four of their 28 attempts from three-point range.
Bryce Golden put up a team-leading 17 points on 7-for-12 shooting for Butler, posting his fifth consecutive game in double-figures.
Jayden Taylor added 11 points for the Bulldogs, while Thompson finished with six points and six assists.
Butler played without leading scorer
Chuck Harris, who was sidelined Saturday with a non-COVID illness.
The Bulldogs (7-4) opens BIG EAST play Thursday with a road game at St. John's. Saturday's game was their final non-conference match-up of the season.
