NORMAN, Okla. - Butler pulled out 66-62 overtime win over Oklahoma Tuesday night as part of the BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle in Norman, Okla.
Chuck Harris had a season-high 26 points, highlighted by a three-pointer that gave Butler its final lead of the night at 63-62 with 35 seconds to play in the extra session. Harris was 10-of-21 from the field and hit four three-pointers. Three free throws by Butler and two empty possessions from Oklahoma in the closing seconds gave the Bulldogs the win. The final four-point margin was Butler's largest lead of the game.
With the road win, Butler improves to 6-3 on the season; Oklahoma is now 7-2.
"That was a heck of a battle," said Butler coach LaVall Jordan. "We knew it would be a fight; we talked about that coming in. The guys wouldn't give in; they preached belief in every huddle."
The Sooners got up by 13 seven minutes into the second half before Butler was able to claw back into the game. Freshman Simas Lukosius capped a 9-0 run to give Butler a 50-49 lead with 2:31 to play in regulation. Two Lukosius free throws would eventually put Butler up 54-51 before Elijah Harkless hit a contested three-pointer to tie the game with two seconds to play.
A Jordan Goldwire three-pointer with 1:38 remaining in overtime gave Oklahoma a 62-58 lead. Butler would not allow another Oklahoma point and Harris's three-pointer gave Butler its final lead.
Bryce Golden had 10 points and seven rebounds for Butler. Lukosius had seven clutch points and six rebounds. Fellow freshman DJ Hughes was impactful with six points and six rebounds.
Harkless led Oklahoma with 16 points.
