@ButlerSoftball Heads South for Jaguar Classic

**UPDATE** UIC withdrew from the weekend event on Thursday due to COVID issues within their program. The weekend schedule has been adjusted. Live stats remain available for all of Butler's games, but the Bulldogs' Sunday game will no longer be streamed on ESPN+.

Butler embarks on the second weekend of their 2021 spring season with a trip to Mobile, Ala., for the Jaguar Classic hosted by South Alabama. The weekend will include five games, as the Bulldogs will be joined by the host Jaguars as well as Lipscomb and Murray State.

Live stats will be available for all five contests, while Sunday's final game against South Alabama will be streamed on ESPN+. Butler is scheduled for two games Friday and two games Saturday as well.

The Bulldogs enter the weekend with a 1-4 record, following the Doc Halverson UNI-Dome Classic hosted by the University of Northern Iowa to start the season. The Bulldogs defeated Omaha in the first game of the event.

2019 All-BIG EAST selection Lauren Fey started off the season strong last weekend, leading the team with a .533 batting average, featuring eight hits and four walks. Fey continues her stellar play, which included a team-best .421 batting average during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.

Karli Ricketts has also been a spark for Butler so far this season. The junior picked up the win over Omaha, striking out 10 in that start. She leads the Bulldogs pitching staff with 17 strikeouts in 12 innings. At the plate, she has one home run, one double, and leads the team with six RBIs.

Sophomore Mallory McMahon's first collegiate hit was a pinch-hit, late-inning solo home run that brought the Bulldogs within one in the eventual loss to Northern Iowa.

Alyssa Garcia, who is one of four Bulldogs utilizing a fifth season of eligibility in 2021, is also off to a strong start with a .462 average and .533 on-base percentage. Garcia, Fey, Ricketts, Maddie Moore, Mackenzie Griman, and Loren Simpson each started all five games in the opening weekend. Simpson also belted a solo home run.

Alyssa Graves has a team-best 2.74 ERA at this early stage in the season, having made appearances in three of the team's five games.

Butler and DePaul were the only BIG EAST teams to play during the opening weekend of the 2021 season. The Bulldogs will be joined in action for the upcoming weekend by UConn, Villanova, and Seton Hall.

Following this weekend's games, the Bulldogs have a scheduled weekend off from competition before traveling to Chattanooga for games on March 6-7. The BIG EAST opener is set for March 13-14 when the Bulldogs travel to Seton Hall.
