The Bulldogs stand in fifth after the opening 18 holes of the BIG EAST Women's Golf Championship Presented by JEEP.
 
Butler junior Claire Edwards is one of six players tied for fifth after Friday's play.
 
Play will continue Saturday and Sunday with 18 holes scheduled each day at the Club at Gateway in Ft. Myers, Fla. 
 
Edwards shot a three-over 75 on the 6,072-yard Club at Gateway course. Her first round included four birdies, including one on the closing 18^th hole, a 491-yard par 5. Edwards is four shots off the individual lead.
 
Creighton's Katie Allen has the opening round lead after shooting a one-under 71. She is one shot ahead of Xavier's Morgan Tinsley.
 
Allen led Creighton to the team lead as the Bluejays shot a seven-over 295 Friday. Xavier (300; +12) and Seton Hall (301; +13) round out the top three. Butler is fifth at 316 (+28), which is three shots behind St. John's (313; +25). Georgetown is sixth (321; +33).
 
Graduate student Rayna Oosterhuis was the No. 2 finisher for the Bulldogs on Friday. She shot a seven-over 79 and is tied for 19^th.
 
Katelyn Le was one shot behind Oosterhuis after carding an 80 (+8). She is tied for 23^rd. Ally Ross (82; +10) and Megan Skoog (87; +15) round out the Butler five in 27^th and a tie for 28^th, respectively.
 
The BIG EAST competition is scheduled to begin each day at 8 a.m. ET. Live scoring for all rounds will be available via GolfStat.
