Three Bulldogs earned All-East Region honors as announced by the United Soccer Coaches this week. Junior forward
Katie Soderstrom was a first team selection, while fellow junior
Anastasia Savich and sophomore
Aliya Diagne made the second team.
This is the ninth consecutive year at least one Bulldog has been named to an all-region team and 14th season with a Butler region representative in program history.
Soderstrom earned her second career all-region nod after tabbing six goals and five assists in the 2020-21 season, including a hat trick in the Bulldog's win over Dayton. She started all 12 games, helping Butler to a BIG EAST Championship appearance. She is a two-time All-BIG EAST First Team honoree and a 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District selection.
Savich led the team with nine goals in 2021, which ranked second in the BIG EAST. She tied a program record for goals and points in a single game after scoring four goals (eight points) in Butler's win over Marian. Starting all 12 games, she led the Bulldogs to a sixth consecutive post-season tournament appearance.
Savich, the 2018 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year, is a three time All-BIG EAST selection and two-time all-region pick.
Sophomore Diagne built on her rookie season success and was a solid piece in the midfield for the 2021 Bulldogs. She appeared in all 12 games, making 11 starts, and delivered two goals and two assists on the season. The midfielder earned All-BIG EAST honors for the second consecutive season. Â
