@ButlerMBB Loses Tuesday Night Contest at No. 25 UConn

No. 25 Connecticut delt a 76-59 setback to Butler Tuesday evening at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn.

UConn improves to 12-4 overall and 3-2 in BIG EAST play, while Butler falls to 9-8 (2-4).

This is the final game of a six-day, three-game East Coast road trip for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs are in the midst of a stretch that sees them playing six Top 25 teams in seven games.

Tonight's game was originally scheduled for New Year's Day, but UConn was dealing with COVID issues at the time.

RJ Cole led UConn with 17 points. He was one of five Huskies in double figures. Adama Sanogo, recognized as the BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday, posted a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds.

The UConn defense limited Butler to 31-percent shooting. The Huskies, who held a 49-39 rebounding advantage, blocked 10 of Butler's shots.

UConn led 39-24 at the half and scored the first four points of the final 20 minutes to extend the lead to 19. A 12-4 Butler run, highlighted by back-to-back Taylor three-pointers, cut the UConn advantage to 11 (47-36) with 14:38 remaining. The Huskies then scored seven of the next nine points to reclaim control of the contest.

Butler freshmen Jayden Taylor (19) and Simas Lukosius (with a career-high 17) combined for 36 of Butler's 59 points.

The Bulldogs and Huskies will turn around and meet again Thursday night, this time at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The 9 p.m. tip is set for FS1.
