LEESBURG, Fla. – The Butler softball team suffered a 5-3 loss to Bethune-Cookman on Sunday, the final day of a tournament at the Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex near Orlando. The Bulldogs (7-4) held a 3-2 lead after four innings, but the Wildcats (4-5) scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth and held on for the victory.
Key Moments
- Ellie Boyer (2-4, RBI, R) hit a first-inning triple and a sacrifice fly by Ella White (1-2, RBI) put Butler up, 1-0.
- Bethune-Cookman scored two in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead.
- Monique Hoosen (2-3, R) singled in the second and was knocked across by Boyer, tying the score at two.
- In the top of the fourth, Lauren Fey (1-3, R, 3 SB) singled and ended up stealing second, third, and home to give the Bulldogs a 3-2 lead.
- In the bottom of the fifth, the Wildcats rallied for three runs to take a two-run lead.
Butler Pitching
Alyssa Graves (1-2) pitched the first 4.2 innings for Butler and took the loss. She allowed five runs on five hits while striking out four.
Mackenzie Griman (1.1 IP, 2 K) provided relief out of the bullpen.

- Offensive leaders for the Spring Games Tournament were Gracie Voulgaris (.500/4-8), Mackenzie Griman (.462/6-13), Bri Avery (.417/5-12), Monique Hoosen (.364/4-11), Lauren Fey (.357/5-14) and Ellie Boyer (.357/5-14). Voulgaris, Griman, and Boyer each had a pair of RBIs.
- Boyer and Ella White each had a triple in Florida, while Voulgaris and Griman each had a pair of doubles.
- Butler won seven of its first ten games this season. Other than 2020, when the Bulldogs won eight of their first ten, the program has not won seven games this quickly since 2010.
