QUEENS, N.Y. – The Butler softball team lost the third game in a BIG EAST series at St. John's by the final score of 8-3. The Red Storm (9-27, 4-11 BIG EAST) scored two in the first, but by the middle of the fifth, the Bulldogs (21-14, 9-5 BIG EAST) had tied the game at two. St. John's had big innings in the sixth and seventh and ultimately won by five.
How It Happened
- St. John's scored two in the first inning and maintained a 2-0 lead through two innings.
- In the third, Paige Dorsett (1-3, 2 RBI, 2B) hit a fly ball to center field, and Ellie Boyer (1-2, 2 R) was able to score on an errant throw.
- In the top of the fifth, Dorsett hit a double to left field, again scoring Boyer and tying the score, 2-2.
- The Red Storm added three in the bottom of the fifth to retake the lead, 5-2.
- In the top of the sixth, Teagan O'Rilley hit a home run that brought Butler back to within two.
- In the bottom of the sixth, the Red Storm produced a three-run homer, putting the Bulldogs down, 8-3.
Butler Pitching
Karli Ricketts (11-4) started for Butler and took the loss. In 5.2 innings, she allowed seven hits, eight runs (six earned), and five walks, while striking out eight.
Mackenzie Griman entered in the bottom of the sixth, giving up one hit before securing the final out.
