INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler softball team held off a rallying UIC team for a 3-2 win on Tuesday afternoon. The Bulldogs (22-14) led 2-0 after three innings and then were up 3-1 after four. The Flames (7-23) pulled to within one in the top of the seventh but could get the tying run no farther than third base.
How It Happened
- In the first inning, Lauren Fey (2-3, R, 2B, SB) doubled to left, stole second, and scored on an error to give Butler an early, 1-0, lead.
- In the third, Bri Avery (1-1, R, SB) singled and, after advancing to third, scored on a UIC error. The Bulldogs were up, 2-0.
- The Flames scored in the top of the fourth on a fielder's choice to close to within one.
- In the bottom half, Butler matched the run when Ella White hit a line shot over the left field fence.
- UIC scored one in the top of the seventh and had the tying run on third base with two outs. The game ended when a line drive to Bulldogs left fielder, Monique Hoosen, was caught for the final out.
Butler Pitching
Madison Seigworth (3.0 IP, 3 H, R, 0 ER, K) started for Butler and pitched into the fourth inning. Mackenzie Griman (3-5) came in from the bullpen and was credited with the win. In 4.0 innings, she allowed four hits, one unearned run, and two walks while striking out one.
Bulldog Bits
- Ella White's home run was her third of the season.
- Lauren Fey's stolen base was her thirteenth of the season and the 46th of her career.
- Bri Avery's stolen base was her fourteenth of the season and the 34th of her career.
