Butler Football Posts First Win at Dayton in a Decade 37-10

DAYTON – Butler jumped out to a 13-0 lead at Dayton and never looked back as the Bulldogs recorded a 37-10 win at Welcome Stadium. Jyran Mitchell accounted for three touchdowns on Saturday afternoon and Luka Zurak was a perfect 3-for-3 on field goal attempts. The win moves Butler to 5-3 on the season and 3-2 in the Pioneer Football League.

Jyran Mitchell ran for 117 yards and two touchdowns against the Flyer defense. He scored the first touchdown of the game on a 24-yard run and would add a receiving touchdown before the half to help BU build a 20-3 advantage.

Luka Zurak hit two field goals in the first quarter (24, 46) and opened up the second half with a 36-yard make. Dayton's lone touchdown came with less than six minutes to play in the game. Butler countered with a 59-yard TD run from Mitchell and Bret Bushka threw a touchdown to Ryan Lezon to seal the win.

Bushka didn't throw an incomplete pass in the first half and would end the game hitting 18 of his 23 throws for 191 yards and two touchdowns. Ethan Loss led the wide receiver group with six catches for 86 yards.

Butler's defense was led by Jeremiah Jackson and his team-high 11 tackles. Jackson and Charlie Bless each forced a fumble on Saturday. Lucas Kozlowski and Peyton Daniels were credited with fumble recoveries.

The Bulldogs will return to the Sellick Bowl next weekend for Homecoming. The battle for the Hoosier Helmet will fall on Saturday, Oct. 28. Kick-off on FloFootball is set for 1 PM.
