INDIANAPOLIS – Bulldog cornerbacks and wide receivers are going head-to-head this spring on the gridiron. In 2022,
Bret Bushka tossed 20 touchdown passes with 14 of those going to wide receivers.
Luke Wooten led the team with six receiving touchdowns. In the other huddle, BU returns a talented group of cornerbacks that helped Butler reach seven wins in the first season under Head Coach
Mike Uremovich. BU ended the campaign with eight interceptions.
Will Mason led the team with two.
"The cornerback room this spring has shown a lot of improvement so far," assistant coach
Jalen Moss explained. "There are things to clean up for sure, but I'm really excited about the overall projection of our room throughout the rest of the spring and going into next season. We have a lot of young guys that haven't played a lot of football for us on Saturday's getting a lot of reps."
Coach Moss gave shout outs to
Kellen Madison,
Kyler Newcom,
Quinn Warweg,
Andres Srsen, and
Adam Cipriano after the first full week of spring practices.
"It's been really exciting to see
Kellen Madison get back on the field and
Quinn Warweg has done a really good job this spring," Moss added. "I'm excited to see Warweg continue to build of successful freshman season. The new guy in our group is
Kyler Newcom. He has done a good job picking up the defense so far and has shown constant improvement.
Andres Srsen and
Adam Cipriano have also done a good job stepping up for our position group this spring. Overall, I'm really excited about this group of cornerbacks and can't wait see what the future holds."
The wide receiver room will look a little different this year with
Tyler Adams graduating, but the 'Dawgs will be ready to roll with
Luke Wooten,
Thomas Brown,
Luka Popovic,
Jeremy Johnson and
Joey Audia among others.
"I am really happy with the progress the wide receiver room has been making," assistant coach
Ray Holmes stated. "They have made big gains in the weight room and have really focused in on learning the entire playbook. I am really excited to see them continue to grow as the spring goes on."
