SCOUTING VALPARAISO: The Beacons are coming off their bye week with a 3-5 overall record that includes one win and three losses in league play. Morehead State, Drake and St. Thomas topped Valpo in recent weeks, but the Beacons recently went to Marist and claimed a 17-14 win. RB Mike Mansaray ranks fourth in the PFL in rushing yards per game (60.8) and fifth in rushing touchdowns (6). The South Dakota transfer had the best game of his career in his last outing going for 135 yards and two touchdowns.

Valparaiso has one of the best punters in the nation in Sam Johnson. A transfer from Jackson State, Johnson started his collegiate career at Alabama. He leads the PFL and ranks fourth among FCS punters in average (46.8).

ALL-TIME SERIES: Butler leads the all-time series against Valparaiso 53-30. The first-ever meeting was a 58-0 Bulldog victory back in 1927. Butler won seven of the first 10 meetings in this series. The last 10 meetings have been split with each team winning five games.

Butler has won the last two meetings, but each contest was close. In 2022, Butler scored 20 fourth quarter points to storm back and win 26-25. Last year, but scored 14 points in the third quarter after a scoreless first half to help capture a 17-7 win at home.

LAST MEETING: Butler rushed for 242 yards in last year's Valparaiso victory. The Bulldogs dominated time of possession (39-21) and went 8-for-16 on third down to pick up the win. BU also went 4-for-4 on fourth down conversions.

Valparaiso's offense went 0-3 in the red zone last year vs. Butler by missing three field goals.

SCHOOL RECORD: Jeremiah Jackson picked off a Stetson pass in the end zone and returned it 100 yards for a BU touchdown to set a new school record.

HOOSIER HELMET HISTORY: The Hoosier Helmet Trophy was created to commemorate and intensify the long-standing rivalry between Butler and Valparaiso. The two programs have played each year since 1951.
