MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – The Butler softball team split contests with Brown and Le Moyne at the Spring Games on Saturday. The Bulldogs (7-7, 0-0 BIG EAST) saw a 1-1 tie with the Bears (1-2, 0-0 Ivy League) fade when Brown produced a six-run fifth inning. In the second game of the day, Butler jumped to a three-run lead against the Dolphins (1-9, 0-0 Northeast) and held on for the narrow, one-run, victory.
Game 3: Brown- 8, Butler- 3 (7 innings)
Butler struck first with a
Monique Hoosen solo home run in the top of the second. Brown answered in the bottom half with a run of its own, tying the score, 1-1.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Bears erupted with six runs, all unearned, on six hits.
In the sixth, the Bulldogs loaded the bases with no outs, but Brown turned a double play at home and first.
Teagan O'Rilley followed with a two-run double, but that's where the rally ended.
The Bears added a final run in the bottom of the sixth.
Kayla Noerr started in the circle for Butler and was relieved by
Sydney Cammon early in the second. Cammon (2-5) took the loss, allowing seven runs (only one earned) on eight hits and one walk with one strikeout in 4.1 innings. Noerr (1.2 IP, R, 3BB, K) re-entered in the bottom of the sixth and finished the game.
Game 4: Butler- 3, Le Moyne- 2 (7 innings)
Butler scored one in the first on a
Paige Dorsett single that sent
Hailey Conger sliding across home plate.
In the third,
Ella White hit a two-run bomb that also brought in
Cate Lehner. The Bulldogs led, 3-0, after three complete.
Le Moyne scored single runs in the fourth and sixth innings, cutting the lead to one.
In the top of the seventh, the Dolphins were unable to get a runner on base.
Katie Petran (5-0) pitched a complete game for Butler and secured the win. In 7.0 innings, she allowed two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out six.
