MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – The Butler softball team lost to Bellarmine on Sunday in its final contest at the Spring Games. The Knights (5-5, 0-0 ASUN) scored all five of their runs in the second inning, and the Bulldogs (7-8, 0-0 BIG EAST) could manage only one in response.
Game 5: Bellarmine- 5, Butler- 1 (7 innings)
After a scoreless first inning, Bellarmine loaded the bases on three singles with not outs, eventually scoring five runs and forcing a pitching change.
Butler loaded the bases in the fourth, but an infield grounder produced a force at the plate. One batter later, a line drive to second led to a double play and the threat was ended.
The Bulldogs pushed one runner across in the bottom of the seventh but could not extend the game.
Rylyn Dyer started for Butler and took the loss. In 1.1 innings, she allowed five runs (three earned) on four hits and two walks. Relief came from
Katie Petran (1.2 IP, H) in the second,
Sydney Cammon (2.0 IP, 2H, BB) in the fourth, and
Kayla Noerr (2.0 IP, BB, K) in the sixth.
Bulldog Bits
- Paige Dorsett's double was her first of the season and 13th of her career.
- Leigh Vande Hei connected on her first collegiate base hit in the fifth inning.
