Week 2 Sends Butler Football to Murray State

Butler will play at Murray State (0-1) this weekend after defeating Upper Iowa last Saturday 40-7. The ESPN+ broadcast will feature a 7 p.m. kick-off (6 PM CST) at Roy Stewart Stadium.

- PFL Offensive Player of the Week Reagan Andrew completed five passes Week 1 with three of those five resulting in a touchdown.
- Andrew was responsible for four total touchdowns as he added a 22-yard TD run.
- Mike Uremovich is the first coach in Butler Football history (134 Years) to win at least seven games in his first two seasons at the helm.
- Butler is now 2-1 in season openers under the leadership of Uremovich.
- BU has scored 40 points or more six times since Uremovich's first season in 2022.
- The Bulldogs went 3-for-3 on red zone scoring chances vs. the Peacocks.

- Seven tackles from Will Mason last Saturday moved his career total to 100 (23 games).
- Nick Bafia needs five solo tackles to reach 100 in his career. Over 32 games, Bafia has 143 total tackles.
- Kwame Achampong recovered a fumble for the Bulldogs last Saturday.
- Shadon Shannon tied his career-high tackle total with five stops vs. Upper Iowa.
- Onye Onuoha's interception was the first of his career.

SCOUTING MURRAY STATE: The Racers took a 51-0 loss at #11 Missouri over opening weekend. Jayden Johannsen got the start at QB for Murray State and completed seven of his 13 pass attempts against a fierce Tiger defense. Jawaun Northington led the rushing attack with seven carries for 25 yards and the defensive leader for the Racers over Week 1 was Amari Wansley with 10 tackles.
 
Murray State will be celebrating 100 years of Racer football on Saturday. Despite the setback to Missouri, the team is receiving votes in the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES: Saturday's game is the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
 
Murray State's last game against a PFL opponent came just one year ago in the 2023 season opener. They defeated Presbyterian 41-10. Butler's last game against a Missouri Valley team came in 2022 when the Bulldogs played at South Dakota State.
 
REAGAN ANDREW NAMED PFL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Making his first collegiate start, Reagan Andrew tossed three touchdowns and ran for another as Butler secured a 40-7 victory against Upper Iowa on Saturday. He completed 5-of-10 passes to amass 119 yards and added 32 rushing yards.
 
Andrew threw a 16-yard TD pass to William Enneking in the second quarter against Upper Iowa and ended the first half with a 70-yard score to Luke Wooten. His 22-yard rushing TD came midway through the third at the Sellick Bowl and his final TD pass went to Archie Cox from 19 yards out.
 
HAPPY TO HAVE HOWARD: QB Nick Howard had a rushing and a passing touchdown in his Butler debut. The Dartmouth transfer scored the first touchdown of the game vs. Upper Iowa and came back in the second half to toss a career-long 58-yard touchdown to Derek Allen Jr.
 
Derek Allen Jr. hauled in his 58-yard TD pass with one hand giving the newcomer his first reception as a Bulldog.
 
29 FROM 2,000: Graduate transfer Nick Howard needs 29 rushing yards at Murray State to reach 2,000 in his career.
 
Howard has averaged 65.7 rushing yards per game over his collegiate career (30 games).
 
'DAWGS PLAYIN' D: Butler's defense came up with three interceptions in the season opener vs. Upper Iowa. Nick Bafia, Onye Onuoha, and Brayton Spetter were responsible for the takeaways.
 
Butler's last three interception game came in 2023 at Stetson. Devaon Holman had two that day and Spetter had one.
 
STURTZ WITH THE SACK: Adam Sturtz recorded the first sack of the season for Butler which went for a loss of nine yards. Sturtz and Will Mason shared the team lead in tackles over the weekend with seven each.
 
Seven tackles moved Sturtz's career total to 103. The sack was the second of his career.
 
LEAGUE LEADERS: After Week 1, Butler leads the PFL in passing yards per completion (17.2), red zone offense, red zone defense, and fewest penalties.
 
The Bulldog offensive line did not allow a sack or a tackle for loss on Saturday.
 
BILLY AS A BULLDOG: Graduate transfer Billy Dozier set new career-high totals for BU in his debut taking six carries for 23 yards.
 
Dozier's longest rush covered 11 yards. He averaged 3.8 yards per rush.
 
SHORT LEADS SPECIAL TEAMS: Butler punter Ryan Short averaged 42 yards per punt in Week 1 and had three punts downed inside the 20-yard line against Upper Iowa.
 
Short had a career-long 52-yard punt in the season opener.
 
WELCOME TO WEEK 2: Butler was one of five PFL teams to win their season opener. All five winners opened their campaigns at home.
 
Drake's game vs. Quincy was canceled and declared no contest as severe weather plagued Des Moines.
 
UP NEXT: Butler will host Hanover under the lights at the Sellick Bowl on Sept. 14. The annual night game will be a "White Out" for fans.
 
Butler's 6 p.m. kick-off against Hanover will stream live on FloSports.com. This will be the first meeting between the two programs since 2009. BU leads the all-time series 21-1.
