INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler softball team won its sixth game in a row with an 8-5 victory over Seton Hall in game two of a three-game BIG EAST series. Combined with yesterday's win, the Bulldogs (12-9, 5-0 BIG EAST) have clinched the series with one game remaining. The Pirates (10-13, 2-6 BIG EAST) scored all five of their runs in the fifth inning but never led in the game.
Butler got on the board in bottom of the first inning when
Makena Alexander laid down a sacrifice bunt with runners on second and third. One batter later,
Olivia Robards singled to left field and brought home a second run.
In the third inning, again with runners on second and third, Alexander hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring one. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded,
Kieli Ryan drew a walk and pushed a fourth run across.
The Bulldogs added four additional runs in the fourth.
Hailey Conger doubled to send
Paxton Law across, and
Alona Boydston hit a bases-loaded double that scored three more. Butler's lead was 8-0 after four innings.
In the fifth, Seton Hall used six hits to plate five. Butler's lead was down to three.
The Pirates were unable to score in the sixth and seventh innings, stranding three base runners.
Rylyn Dyer (3-1) started in the circle for Butler, lasted into the fifth inning, and was credited with the win. In 4.1 innings, she allowed four runs on six hits and three walks with two strikeouts.
Maren Berger (2.2-IP, 1R, 2H, 3BB) provided relief and finished the game.
Bulldog Bits
- Conger's double was her seventh this season and the 20th of her career.
- Boydston's double was a career first.
- Alexander's double was her sixth this season and the 18th of her career.
- Dyer picked up her third win of the season which was the 17th of her career.
