Butler was knocked off, 2-1, Saturday night at St. John's in a BIG EAST contest in Queens, N.Y. The Bulldogs, which entered the contest ranked No. 11 nationally, were undone by a Red Storm goal in the 85
th minute.
With the loss, Butler falls to 8-4-1 overall and 3-2 in BIG EAST play. St. John's is now 6-3-4 and 2-1-2 in conference action.
St. John's Harry Cooksley broke a 1-1 tie in the 85
th minute as he was able to navigate through the Butler defense and find the net. It proved to be the game-winner.
The Red Storm also got on the board first with Alistair Johnston's goal in the 38
th minute. The header came off a feed from Mauricio Rivas.
It was right after that goal that Butler began to pick up the pace. The Bulldogs took the final two shots of the first half and then out-shot SJU, 9-7, in the final 45 minutes.
That attack led to the tying goal from
Lewis Suddick in the 65
th minute. Suddick's eighth goal of his freshman campaign came off a
Jared Timmer assist. The match would be tied for nearly 20 minutes until St. John's scored the deciding goal.
Eric Dick made four saves on the night for Butler. Freshman
Isaac Galliford led the Bulldogs with six shots.
The Red Storm had a 14-11 advantage in shots and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks. Andrew Withers had three saves for St. John's.
The Bulldogs will look to rebound Saturday night (Oct. 22) in Indianapolis, hosting Seton Hall at 7 p.m. The match will be streamed on BEDN.
