SCOUTING SAN DIEGO: San Diego won their sixth Pioneer Football League title in 2017 by going undefeated in league play (8-0). The 2018 preseason favorites are now sitting on top of the PFL standings with a 3-0 record. They are the only undefeated team in the league and they are coming off a tight 36-34 win vs. Dayton, the team picked to finish second in the PFL. The game between San Diego and Dayton came down to the wire. The Flyers threw a four-yard touchdown pass with 2:44 left in the fourth quarter to move the score to 36-34. The two-point try failed and the Toreros would hang on for the victory. San Diego posted 609 total yards of offense in the win. They rank second in the PFL in scoring offense (34.8) and first in pass offense (345.7). QB Anthony Lawrence leads the league in passing yards per game and is currently tied with Drake's Grant Kraemer with 16 passing TD's. His top target is WR Michael Bandy, a 5-11 junior who averages 131 receiving yards per game.

Team captains for San Diego this year include Daniel Cooney (OL), Anthony Lawrence (QB) and Marcus Vaivao (LB).

ALL-TIME SERIES: San Diego leads the all-time series against Butler 18-5. The first meeting between the two clubs was played in 1993. Butler's first win in the series followed in 1994 (38-21).

Butler's last win over San Diego came during the 2009 season (25-24).

LAST MEETING: San Diego defeated Butler 38-17 last year. Will Marty found Pace Temple for two first half touchdowns.

The Toreros racked up 499 total yards of offense last year against Butler. Lawrence threw for 367 yards and five touchdowns.

TEMPLE VS. BANDY: Two of the top receivers in the PFL will go head-to-head this weekend when Butler hosts San Diego. Bandy leads the league in receiving yards (791), receptions (48) and touchdowns (7). Temple ranks fourth in yards (500), second in receptions (41) and is tied for third with five touchdowns.

Bandy is having a breakout season in 2018. He did not record a catch last year vs. Butler.

BRUNNER EYES 100 TACKLES: Mason Brunner is three tackles shy of 100 for his career.

Brunner made three tackles vs. Valpo with one coming behind the line of scrimmage.

MARTY MAKES HIS MARK: QB Will Marty continues to climb the all-time passing yards top-ten list at Butler. Marty heads into Saturday with 3,968 career passing yards, the eighth-highest total in school history. He is just 104 yards shy of seventh (Rob Cutter '84-'87).

Marty hit 19 of his 30 targets at Valpo for 197 yards and two touchdowns.

ALL-TIME GREAT: Pace Temple heads into the weekend with 185 career receptions to total 2,767 yards. He ranks second all-time at Butler in career receiving yards and is up to third all-time in receptions. Temple needs 228 yards to pass Zach Watkins (08-11) for the top spot in receiving yards and eight catches to move into second place in receptions.

Temple will attempt to become just the seventh PFL player to reach 3,000 career receiving yards.

ITS GOOD: Butler kicker Drew Bevelhimer has made 32 field goals during his Bulldog career, just four shy of the all-time career school record. The BU record currently belongs to David Lang who hit 35 field goals from 2008-11.

Bevelhimer hit a 39-yard field goal in the third quarter at Valparaiso.

PACE PUTS ON A SHOW: Pace Temple caught 14 passes for 167 yards and a touchdown at #24 Youngstown State. He led all FCS receivers with 14 catches, and therefore was named Stats FCS National Offensive Player of the Week and PFL Player of the Week. He became the first Bulldog to earn the PFL honor since 2015 when the award went to Matt Shiltz. 14 catches and 167 yards were both career-high marks for Temple. He now has nine 100-yard receiving games in his BU career.

14 catches in a single-game is just one shy of tying the school record set by Tom Redmond (15 catches vs. Ball State - 1972)

UP NEXT: Butler will end the month of October with a 12 PM kick vs. Dayton at the Sellick Bowl.
